             The Society is in the sixteenth year of its existence. It was registered in the year 1986, its Registration No. being 1204/86.

             Shri V. Thulasidas, IAS, Chief Secretary, Tripura is the pivot of the Society as he was instrumental in its organization in the year 1986 when he was the Commissioner-cum-Secretary, Agriculture. Shri Badal Choudhury, the then Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture was also very much enthusiastic in its establishment. Shri Thulasidas is the founder President and has yet been continuing in the capacity of the President. 

            Its Governing body is formed with 21 (Twenty-one) members of whom eight members inclusive of Shri V. Thulasidas, Chief Secretary, Tripura and Shri Amar Das, Director of Horticulture & Soil Conservation, Tripura respectively as President and Member-Secretary have been nominated by the Government and 13 (Thirteen) others including 2 (Two) Institutional Members elected by the Society. It is a Government sponsored Society composed of mostly serving officials & employees as well as a few retired officials. It has been rendering benevolent service to its members, Govt. Organizations and general public of the State. It is also working for the cause of environment and ecology together with the object of enthusing consciousness and love for floriculture and arboriculture. Agartala city and its suburbs are almost filled with flower gardens both on the ground space and terrace of the houses.

            As per roll there are 114 (One hundred fourteen) life-members of whom 5 (Five) members have given up the ghost and 3 (Three) Institutional members. The Society made purchases of Dahlia and chrysanthemum cuttings, flower seeds and flower plants worth Rs. 48,455.00 and effected sales of the same to the tune of Rs.71,512.00 for the financial year, 2000-01. It has Fixed Deposit (FD) amounting to Rs.48,435.00 and Savings Bank (SB) Account for Rs. 97,662.25 during the said financial year. It earned a net profit of Rs.9,189.00 for the period ended on 31st March 2001. Apropos the decision taken at the 19th Governing Body Meeting held on 30th November, 2001, out of the aforesaid S.B a/c, Rs.25,000/- only be kept in the Savings A/c and the residue be deposited as fixed deposit for 3 years. 

            The Society has created a favorable condition towards beautification of Agartala City and its environs, as also in outlying Districts and Sub-divisions. It has 2(two) chapters – one at Udaipur, South District and another at Kailasahar, North District. Dhalai District is expected to start functioning during the current financial year 2001-02 as its 3rd Chapter. Chapters are being given financial assistance to the extent of Rs.5,000.00 each for Flower show,2002. 

            The Society holds every year Flower Show-cum-Competition as an integral part of Republic day celebrations at Agartala. 

            The Society has a plot of land. The Government had allotted this plot of land measuring 0.35 acres at Kankariatilla nearby Shyamalibazar H.S. School for use as Nursery. It has Pucca office building of its own on a portion of the said land. The boundary of the said land has been fenced with barbed wires for protection against the ravages of the stray cattle & goats. The Society has already started growing flower garden on the front space of the office building. Nursery bed etc. will be started in no time upon reclamation of the land.

            It also maintains a flower garden on a plot at the left-hand side of the frontage of the Lions’ Gate (Main Gate) in collaboration with Agartala Municipal Council. 

            Thanks are due to the Tripura Legislative Assembly for allowing the Society to use its Complex for Flower Show, as also benign State Government, NEEPCO, Ramchandranagar and District Magistrate & Collector, West Tripura District for their financial assistance. The Society also expresses its grateful thanks to the Directorate of Horticulture & Soil Conservation for their technical guidance and active co-operation. Also deep gratitude to Dooradarshan Kendra, Agartala, ETV, Agartala, All India Radio, Agartala, ICAT, Tripura for covering the proceedings of the Flower show-cum-Competition, 2002, so also to the Press, Police Department, Power Department and all participants for their co-operation and assistance.
