19 September,2000 :

  • State Government has introduced Merit Scholarship to the tribal students who have secured 50% marks in the Annual Examination between VI to XII standard.

    In Dhalai District 303 nos of tribal students reading between Class VII to XII have received such merit scholarship, break up of which given below :-

    1. Longtharai Velly Sub-division - 166 tribal students.
    2. Ambassa Sub-division          -    66 tribal students.
    3. Kamalpur Sub-division          -    54 tribal students.
    4. Gandacherra Sub-division     -   70 tribal students.

    In North District 411 numbers tribal students have received merit scholarship this year out of which 246 tribal male student and 165 tribal girl student, break up of which given below :-

    1. Kailashahar Sub-division - 46 tribal students.
    2. Dharmanagar Sub-division - 31 tribal students.
    3. Kanchanpur Sub-division - 334 tribal students.

    In South Tripura District merit scholarship have awarded to 589 tribal students. Last year 486 tribal students received merit scholarship for securing 50% marks.

  • The Dasarath Deb State Sports Complex covering an area of 45 acres was formally inaugurated by Shri Manik Sarkar, Chief Minister, Tripura on 13-th September, 2000. While on the same day Rhyme Swimming Pool has formally inaugurated by H.E. Governor of Tripura, Lt. Gen. K. M. Seth (Retd.).

    In the first phase estimated cost of Rs.610.35 lakhs, which covers - Grand Stand, Football ground, Athletic track, Modern Swimming pool. In addition 10 nos of quarters would also be constructed along with other necessary infrastructural facilities.

    In the 2nd phase of the construction following items would also be covered for which an estimated cost of Rs.733.30 lakhs would also be required.

    Indoor Stadium, hostel for the players and athletics including modern treatment facilities, sports school, separate arrangement for handball, basketball, cricket, hockey, Lon tennis, volleyball, khoko and kabadi and along with other infrastructural facilities including transport and communication.



 

11 September,2000 :

  • Rabindra Award 1999 conferred by Education Department to Shri Shyamal Deb Barma and Shri Rama Prasad Dutta for their notable contribution in the field of Kakbarak and Bengali literature respectively. In 1977 Shri Shyamlal Deb Barma won the Salil Krishna Deb Barman Award conferred by the ICAT Department, Govt. of Tripura for his novel "Khong". Shri Rama Prasad Dutta for his notable contribution in Bengali literature won the "Ananga Mohini Puraskar"; "Tripura Hitasadhini Puraskar"; "Hari Charan Samriti Puraskar" and "Bratati Sahitya Puraskar".

  • Merit Award were conferred to 602 tribal students of West Tripura District as they have secured 40% marks in Annual Examination on 7th September, 2000 in Town Hall, Agartala. Out of these 602 tribal students, 348 were boys and 254 were girls.



24 June,2000 :

  • Lt. General (Retired) K. M. Seth was sworn in as the Governor of Tripura on 23rd June,2000 at 4 PM in the lawns of the Raj Bhawan in Agartala. The swearing in ceremony was conducted by Shri V. Thulasidas, Chief Secretary and the oath was given by Justice Mr. N. C.Jain of Guwahati High Court.



15 June,2000 :

  • The "IT Policy, 2000" of Government of Tripura was released to the Press on June 13, 2000 by Sri Pabitra Kar, Minister, Industries & Commerce ( Incharge of Information Technology ).
    Earlier, the IT Policy had been approved by Council of Ministers in their meeting held on 3rd June, 2000.

31 March,2000 :

  • National Drama Festival organized by the Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism Department, Govt. of Tripura in collaboration with the North East Zone Cultural Centre has been inaugurated in the Town Hall, Agartala, Tripura on March 30, 2000 by Hon’ble Minister for Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, Govt. of Tripura. Drama troupe from U.P., West Bengal, Mizoram, Assam and Tripura will present their drama performances during the period from March 30 to April 1, 2000.

  • Shri Jitendra Choudhury, Minister for Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism, Tripura has released two numbers of postal stamps in Sukanta Academy, Agartala, Tripura to day at 11 a.m.

    • Postal stamp on Slow Loris (Lazzabati Bandar), which is one of the rare species available in Tripura and called as “NYCTICEBUS COUCANG”. In Hindi it is known as “SHARMINDI BILL”.

      Size : Head and body 30-40 cm, Tail a mere stump.
      Character, habit and distribution : A round headed, round eyed lemur, its second toe clawed and other toes furnished with flat nails, stout in body and limb, with a coat of dense fur, variable in colouring, head and shoulder may be silvery white, creamy or gray, the flanks and rump, rusty or buff or ash-gray. Very distinctive and brown stripe marking the middle line of its back and terminating on the crown. Brown circles round its lustrous owl - like eyes. It is found in the forests of Tripura and Assam together with the adjoining hill tracks. It is an inhabitant of dense forests, nocturnal and is seldom seen. It spends the day in sleep, curled like a ball, preferably in some dark hole of crevice. A single young is born after the gestation of 3 months.

    • The next stamp was on wild guava.

  • Tamilnadu Cultural team arrived Tripura to-day 31-03-2000 to present the glimpses of cultural heritage of Tamilnadu in the following places of Tripura during the period from April 1-7, 2000.

  • Dharmanagar under North Tripura district.

  • Kailashahar, District HQ of North Tripura.

  • Kamalpur under Dhalai District.

  • Agartala, the State Capital.

  • Udaipur, District HQ of South Tripura.

  • Sonamura under West Tripura District.

Visit of Tamilnadu cultural team to Tripura is jointly organized by the Information, Cultural affairs & Tourism Department, Govt. of Tripura and Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi.

  • Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council election is scheduled to be held on April 30 and May 3, 2000 for which notification has been issued by Shri Sudhir Sharma, Election Commissioner for TTAADC election. This will be the 4-th election of TTAADC for 28 seats.

    • Submission of nomination paper : By 7-th April, 2000.

    • Scrutiny of nomination paper : April 8, 2000.

    • Withdrawal of nomination paper : By April 10, 2000.

    • Date of Election : April 30, 2000 for 15 Constituencies & May 3, 2000 for 13 Constituencies.

    • Total number of voters : 5,77,805.

    • Male voters : 2,94,741.

    • Female voters : 2,83,064.

    • Total Polling centers : 847.



     

    15th March,2000 :

    • S.D.Barman Award has been presented to Shri Amiya Mukul Dey for his notable contribution for promotion of Rabindra sangeet.

    • Shri Haripada Deb Barma has been awarded Salil Krishna Deb Barman Smriti Purashkar for his collection of Kakbarak stories entitled “Jalai Tak Pupu”.

    • For best publication in Bengali published from Tripura during 1999, Akshwar Prakashani, Agartala has got the award for the publication entitled “Kakbarak Vasha Sahitya” written by Shri Kumud Kundu Chowdhury.

    • Award for best publication in Kakbarak language published from Tripura during 1999 has been given to Mrs.Karabi Deb Barman. Writer of the publication is Dr.Nilmani Deb Barman and the book entitled “Bemar Tai Bini Hum Rimung”.

    • For the first time Russian Film Festival is being organised by the Information, Cultural Affairs & Tourism Department, Govt. of Tripura in Rupashi Cinema Hall, Agartala during the period from 25-03-2000 to 29-03-2000. This is being organised to commemorate the year of Culture for Peace and 55-th Anniversary Victory over Fascism. All total 11 films will be screened during the festival out of which :

      • “The Commissar” directed by Alexander Askoldov which won the silver bear at British International Film Festival in 1998.

      • “Russian and Lyudmila” directed by Alexander Ptushko, which won the special award at IFF of Children Film in Solerno 1976.

      • “The Gypsy Camp Vanishes into Blue” directed by Emil Lotvanu which received the golden shell at the 24-th San Sebasthian International Film Festival”.

      • “The Battle Ship Potemkin” directed by Sergei Eisenstein.

    • Drama Workshop is being organised at Agartala in collaboration with the National School of Drama for one month with effect from 26-3-2000 to impart training to the talents of the state in different disciplines of Drama.

    • National Drama Festival is being organised for 3(three) days with effect from 30-03-2000 at Agartala in collaboration with North East Cultural Centre.
