    National Informatics Centre (NIC) is a premiere S&T; institution of the Government of India, established in 1976, for providing e-Government/e-Governance Solutions adopting best practices, integrated services and global solutions in Government Sector.
    In 1975, the Government of India strategically decided to take effective steps for the development of information systems and utilization of information resources and also for introducing computer based decision support system (informatics-led development) in government ministries and departments to facilitate planning and programme implementation to further the growth of economic and social development. Following this,the Central Government nucleated a high priority plan project “National Informatics Centre (NIC)” in 1976, and later on with the financial assistance of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to the tune of US$4.4 million.

    NIC has played an important role of an active catalyst and facilitator in informatics development programme in Governments at the national, state and district levels, during the last 26 years which made them take policy decisions to create knowledge societies – societies that can exploit knowledge to derive competitive advantage using the opportunities provided by digital technology. NIC has been instrumental in adopting Information Technology and Communication Technology to reach out into India i.e. by implementing IT applications in Social and Public Administrations.

    NIC Tripura State Centre (TSC) was established in the year 1988 and since then has been providing value added ICT services to the Govt. of Tripura. Initially NIC District Unit was established in 3 districts namely West Tripura, North Tripura & South Tripura, subsequently 8 District Units were setup for providing support to the District Administrations. NIC Tripura is involved in many critical eGovernance projects such as eHospital (Pan India implementation), TPDS, eDistrict, eGRAS among the major software solutions that is implemented for Govt. of Tripura.

    NIC TSC has been providing high speed internet connectivity to nearly ~6000 node of spread over Governors House, State Secretariat, Legislative Assembly, 8 District Magistrates Office, High Court. Our state centre also houses a state of the art Mini Data Centre providing IaaS to host different eGov Applications. The Mini Cloud solution comprises of 480 TB Storage, and separate Rack Servers with 50TB storage. Services hosted are ~60 Applications as well as e- Hospital instances. Tripura State Wide Area Network is implemented in the 84 PoPs across the state. All the 8 districts were connected with 1Gbps or 100 Mbps leased circuit.

    NIC TSC has been providing the service of Website Design,Development & Hosting (including security audit, remote publishing, domain registration) for State Government Portal, 8 District Portal on S3WAAS framework, Police, and ~100 other State Government Departments and Organizations, created using CMS and are GIGW compliant. These websites are hosted in NIC Cloud, NIC State Mini Data Centre and State Data Centre. 45 static websites have been migrated to NIC Hyderabad cloud. Around 20 Applications are integrated with NIC eMail/SMS Gateway, using web methods of send sms-mail, easily and securely. Major eGov Applications (e-Hospital, Land Records and Registration, Tourism, eOffice, Transport, Municipality, e-District, Examination Portals & Counseling, Scholarships, Agri Portals, and Finance Department Applications) are some of the major Applications integrated. Also, NIC Tripura caters to around ~5000 eMail Accounts and ~10 Lakh SMS per year. There are 18 VC Studios in the State, 3 NKN Studios and 238 Web VC Accounts. Total No. of VCs in Last FY is 1074 and 266 this year till date. Total VIP VC managed last FY was 69.

    NIC TSC has been a driving force towards transforming Tripura into Digital Tripura as envisioned by Shri Biplab Kumar Deb, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura. NIC TSC is the key e-Gov apps implementer to accomplish the goal of delivering impactful e-Governance services to citizens of the State. NIC, in line with Digital India programme, always strives to extend and achieve excellence in providing e-Governance services and reliable Internet over NICNET/NKN backbone connectivity to District and Sub-district level offices in most remote part of India.
